Message to the Bogalusa City School District Community
The 2022 - 2023 BCSS school year began on August 4, 2022. We had a wonderful start to the school year, with the majority of our students attending ready to learn!
As we begin the 2022 - 2023 school year, we will work together for our students with the motto - "Building a Strong Foundation." We know as a school district that we must all work together to provide the best educational opportunity for our students. We are dedicated to educating our students from Pre-K to 12th grade, each year continuing to build upon the necessary foundation needed for each student to be successful in school and beyond. This past year, 2021- 2022, BCSS was among the top ten districts in the state for one-year growth in LEAP! BCSS rose 3% in those students who scored Mastery and above last year. We are extremely proud of our Administrators (at schools and central office), faculty, staff, and students for the hard work that was evident in accomplishing this goal. What a wonderful way to begin a new school year!
We will continue on a trajectory to academic success as we improve the educational opportunities for our students through implementing meaningful professional development for our teachers. We will also continue to provide equitable access to technology and internet services for all.
We are excited about the renovations and new construction at our schools for the coming school year. We will have air conditioning in the Gayle Jenkins auditorium at Central Elementary, air conditioning in the BHS boy's gym, and new roofs on Central Elementary and Byrd Avenue School. The new track at the Lewis Murray football stadium is also finishing up, and will be ready for the first of September. All of these completed improvements will continue to enhance the learning environment for our students.
After coming out of two years of a pandemic, we are keenly aware of the need for mental health professionals on our campuses. This year we have hired a Social Emotional Learner professional for each school setting to work with our students. We are excited about this opportunity to help our students each and every day with any issue they may be facing.
Our future is bright in Bogalusa City Schools as our dedication and commitment to our children in this district continues to shine. We are ready for the new year, and to emerge better than before, as a district that we can all be proud of and support.
Sincerely,
Lisa Tanner, Superintendent
