Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) mandates that all states establish English language proficiency standards. The Louisiana Connectors for English Learners are aligned to the state's standards and are linked to the state's Math, Science, and Social Studies standards. The LA Connectors for EL identifies what an English Language Learner (ELL) is able to do at the five levels of English language Proficiency in the four domains of language - listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The LA Connectors for ELs describes the language behaviors exhibited by ELLs and are structured to influence the instructional methods and strategies that teachers use in the classroom, methods of assessment, and academic achievement of ELLs.
