The level and type of gifted services are determined at the IEP in accordance with the student’s needs and evaluation results.
Gifted services emphasize: enrichment, acceleration, higher level thinking skills, multi-disciplinary content, abstract thinking skills, and a higher degree of complexity than regular classroom curriculum.Characteristics of Gifted Children commonly include high rates of success in subjects of interest, having a good memory, comprehending well, and acquiring knowledge quickly. Gifted children are characteristically observant, inquisitive, think abstractly, and have a large vocabulary compared to their peers. They typically learn rapidly and independently. Gifted children usually like structure, show good judgement, and are responsible. They are commonly articulate and expressive.
