In the wake of last night's unimaginable tragedy that has befallen our school community, we find ourselves grappling with profound sorrow. Although this incident occurred off campus, it was close enough to have an adverse effect on the school event that was taking place. We value everyone's safety and concerns; the remaining home basketball games will be played away or at a neutral site. As a resilient community, we will rise above the grief that weighs heavily on our hearts. Let us channel our sorrow into a shared commitment to support one another so we can heal and emerge stronger and more compassionate by standing united.
As a precaution, we will provide extra security for Bogalusa High School when school resumes on Tuesday, and grief counselors will be available for staff and students.
The Lumberjack family extends our sympathy and condolences to the students' families. We appreciate the phone calls, emails, and support from school districts, citizens, and stakeholders.
Dr. Byron C. Hurst, Ed.D.
Superintendent
The Bogalusa City Schools family is deeply saddened to inform our school community of the tragic incident that occurred during a basketball game tonight, resulting in the loss of one of our students and the injury of another one. Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this devastating loss. Our top priorities are the well-being and safety of our students and spectators, and we are working closely with local authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. To the Covington Lions, your safety was our top priority, and we appreciate your patience. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to everyone impacted by this tragedy and will do everything possible to assist and support those in need.

Mr. Magic, Buffy Coleman, spoke to our students today. He is a former player for the Harlem Wizards basketball team. He introduced NBA (Never Be Absent), a campaign to help promote attendance in school. He explained how
people that succeed work hard, even when it is difficult or not easy. He encouraged students to find something they like to do, and they will be more likely to succeed.
Attendance matters! We appreciate our parents and guardians that ensure their students attend school daily. There is a strong relationship between attendance and academics!

A special guest speaker visited Bogalusa High Middle School in Mrs. Ann Parker’s ELA class. Sonja Parker, who is a Pi Beta Phi LSU student, came with homemade Christmas cards her sorority sisters made for 50 students. Each student received two new books, the card, Christmas candy, and donuts. Sonja spoke to the students about the importance of reading and continuing to do their best in school with the right attitude to be successful! Her sorority’s philanthropy is Read, Lead, Achieve!

Mrs. Ann Parker's 84 students each received cozy blankets as gifts
this season. This was made possible through generous donations from friends, community members, and church families. The students responded with joyful laughter and smiles!!

BHS has a half day tomorrow!🎄🎄

The BHS National Honor Society gathered today for their annual holiday party. They enjoyed food, fellowship, and fun! They ate delicious food cooked by the amazing Mrs. Lisa Jackson. They also played a gift "stealing" game with socks. These students are role models on our campus. They maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. True scholars!
